Welcome Message by European Athletics President

European Athletics has been relentlessly pursuing ways of creating new opportunities and interest in our sport and has been encouraging the member federations to come up with innovative ideas to make the sport more attractive for both athletes and spectators.
The European Team Championships are the culmination of a lot of research and consultation by European Athletics to the needs and wants of athletics fans, the media and the athletes and we are confident that this formula is a successful one.
The first edition held simultaneously in four different venues last year proved that it is a more than worthy successor to the erstwhile European Cup which begun in the 1960s and served the athletes and nations very well.
The emphasis of this competition is all about the nation and the points individual athletes contribute to their nations rather than the individual results. It is a unique competition and based on the feedback received last year we have fine-tuned some rule changes which we believe will make the event even more exciting and unpredictable.
I am sure that the Athletics Federation of Serbia, which has been entrusted with the 2nd League of this year’s European Team Championship, will present the Serbian public a top quality event.
On behalf of European Athletics, I would like to thank the Athletics Federation of Serbia, the local organisers and the city authorities for their hard work and support in the organisation of the event.
I wish both the participating athletes as well as the Organising Committee a very successful Championship in Serbia.

President,

Welcome Message by President of Athletics Federation of Serbia
Dear friends from the world of athletics,
as the President of Athletics Federation of Serbia, it is my pleasure and honour to welcome you to my country and its capital city Belgrade.
Organizing European Team Championships 2nd League and having more than 500 athletes, trainers and officials from eight European countries as our guests is a significant international event that we take quite seriously.
Serbia is a friendly, sports-loving country, known for its long tradition of Athletics and its numerous champions. As a modern European capitol, Belgrade proved many times in the past that it has sufficient capacities for hosting major international competitions and I can assure you that this one will be no exception.
Last year, Belgrade was the host of the 25th Universiade, which was ruled as the most successful ever. As a legacy of this event, we now have a stateof- the-art athletic track in the stadium of Athletic Club Red Star, the most modern track in this part of Europe. With our dedication to prepare everything well in advance, all prerequisites are in place for a memorable and highly organized European Team Championships in Belgrade.
On behalf of Athletics Federation of Serbia and members of Organization Committee who put in a lot of effort into the preparations, I wish you best of luck and welcome you to Serbia.
